In 1962, Scottish & Newcastle Breweries formed Mackinlay-McPherson in order to make the distillery operational and in 1963, Jura was on its feet again. In 1901, the family reportedly fell into a conflict with the then Laird of Jura, resulting in the dismantling of the distillery. It changed various owners until 1876, when the Ferguson family purchased it. Jura Distillery was founded in 1810, and got its licence in 1831. Jura can be reached direct in the summer via Tayvallich using the Jura passenger ferry and all year round via Islay whihc has mainland ferry and air connections and connections to Northern Ireland. We are happy to welcome well behaved dogs (who do not jump on furniture or chase chickens) with responsible owners (who pick up dog poo) - please let us know in advance if you are intending to bring your pet. We're just 8 minutes walk from the distillery, bar, shop, cafe and hall, with deer grazing on the hillside behind the house and fantastic views out over Goat Island to Gigha, the Mull of Kintyre, and the mountains of Arran (weather permitting!).
